It’s not clicked you just by one listen, but once you click clacked it, it’s clicking.
RAYE wants an 1 hour album of joyful Pop songs with fantasizing orchestrated instruments that blows up like Theater speaker, aesthetic value, melodramatic lyrics, collab with cool names, and spoke Full Credits in closing track, while easy listening for all generations. So much ideas that resulting enough, nicely executed. It’s both commercial friendly and artistic, which you can listen in Mall or in your own bedroom.
Act I (Autumn): Spoken word being one of the main value here for Intro, and I Will Overcome is awesome opening track that blends Disney-like cinema Orchestra, spoken word, and powerful chorus. Beware… The South London Lover Boy have the same energy of For Free? Interlude after Wesley’s Theory, less melodic and orchestra, but more silly and repetitive lyrically with random euphoric drop at the end. The WhatsApp Shakespeare is divided in 2 part: Part 1 is very trippy, the piano placements is unsettling with fast-paced vocal melodies, that wrapped in slow and chiller atmosphere. In Part 2, we got big music a.k.a overproduced Jazz.
Act II (Winter): Winter Woman gets an beat stolen from The Fall-Off Is Inevitable, it’s has some Trip-Hop vibe with tiny synths atmosphere and unsettling adlibs. Click Clack Symphony is an conscious full-blown orchestra handled by Hans Zimmer, that feels like fast and slow at the same time, simply the best structural over all include Spoken Word. The last seconds is the greatest music piece I listened this whole day, needs to be longer tho. I Know You’re Hurting is locking the longest, both the most heartbreaking and uplifting, very balanced instrument and vocal. Life Boat really have the most upbeat Electropop energy that gives me her 2016 By Your Side hit that I used to replay as kid back then, easily my fav!
Act III (Spring): I Hate The Way I Look Today is equivalent of wet dream, so much random yet fun elements like overblown Jazz and screamo, very sunny. Though it’s ragebaiting the first half, but wow. Goodbye Henry is the most Cafe vibey jazzy song here, the atmosphere is really great with all the piano, drum, bass details, vocal changes. Nightingale Lane is very light, easy listening with high pitch vocal oriented that looks like an song your mom would like. Skin & Bones is an sunny ending combined with childish lyrics that.. just works.
Act IV (Summer): WHERE IS MY HUSBAND is very playful song with one playful topic, an overblown Jazz Pop song that didn’t really grab me. Fields is very emotional and to-the-point song where you just want to be joyful without burdens, downtempo and loud with spoken word and choirs, not even sounds like Summer. And then straight pulling all the energy back with Joy, the introspective lyrically and catchy, the collab is somewhat fit easily. Happier Times Ahead back into an simpler Jazzy pop that not trying to push overall, very weird putting track here.. Fin is maybe an very confusing closing track, instead of heartbreaking song, it’s like random ahh Grammy announcement, the idea of calling every person that working in the album combined with progressive little orchestra instruments behind, very clever! ..and clacking
